Chennai Airport is the major hub airport in Southern India and to handled about 10.5 Million Passengers; 1.10 Lakhs Aircraft and 3.23 Lakh Metric Tones of Cargo during 2009-10. Share of Chennai Airport in all India’s passenger traffic is 8.5% and is third busy airport after Delhi International Airport and Mumbai International Airport. It has better connectivity to the rest of Indian regional airports and to the major airports in the world. Newkem were instrumental in providing an innovative solution to AAI with Flamebar System from Firespray international for their fire rated duct requirement who were groping in the dark for passenger safety in the event of a fire taking place due to huge combustible baggage handling. The current development projects include construction of a new domestic terminal and expansion of the current International terminal. The design is a collaborative effort of four firms. Frederic Schwartz Architects are responsible for the design of the passenger terminal buildings, parking garage structures and access roadway access system. The Creative Group would be the local architects for the project.
